Mobile Advocacy School for Sumadija and Pomoravlje CSOs


24-25.11.2011.
From November 24-25, in Zlatibor, ISC/ CSAI organized another advanced level MAS training on project proposals writing for 15 CSO activists from Kragujevac, Kraljevo, Krusevac, Brus and Cuprija. This training, as well as the basic one, was conducted by Radmila Mikovic and Pavle Dimitrijevic, ARP consultants from Kragujevac and Belgrade. Participants improved abilities to plan and design project proposals and also strengthened their informal networks formed during the previous MAS organized by ISC in Kragujevac in May this year. These issue- based coalitions are initiated by women’s association Ravno from Cuprija and prominent CSO Viktorija from Kragujevac in order to promote gender activism in Sumadija and Pomoravlje regions. Both MAS trainings conducted in Zlatibor during the period of November 22-25 were visited by journalists from Belgrade Media center and served for documentary videos that explain the purpose, methodology, usage and recent outcomes of ISC CSAI MAS project component.

Mobile Advocacy School for Sandzak and West Serbia CSOs


22-23.11.2011.
From November 22-23, in Zlatibor, ISC/CSAI organized an advanced level MAS training on project proposal writing for 14 CSO representatives from Tutin, Sjenica, Prijepolje, Nova Varos, Sabac, Loznica, Uzice, Valjevo and Bajina Basta. The MAS training was conducted by Zdenka Kovacevic , ISC’s Team of Advocacy Resource Persons (ARP) consultant and civic leader from Pozega. Participants improved their knowledge about the rules and principles of EU calls for proposals and analyzed requests for applications currently open by US donors. Sabac- based youth organization Svetlost who actively participated in basic MAS successfully managed to raise funds from their local government, using skills learned at ISC’s trainings, while Aleksandar Prica from LGBT organization Duga received preliminary approval from Ministry of Health for the project designed in accordance with tips and recommendations highlighted by ISC CSAI ARP consultants during the initial MAS on project proposal writing.

Mobile Advocacy School (MAS)


17-18.10.2011.
ISC Serbia started with advanced MAS cycle on October 17-18 in Kladovo. Training on project proposal writing was conducted by Zdenka Kovacevic and Danko Nikolic, highly experienced ARP consultants from Pozega and Zajecar. This event gathered 14 CSOs from Knjaževac, Majdanpek, Bor and Zaječar. Participants improved their knowledge on rules and principles of EU calls for proposals and analyzed requests for applications designed by the US donors. ISC ARP consultants facilitated number of group exercises who served as a polygon for practical design of project proposal components. Two organizations from the group successfully fundraised with local government in Zajecar using basic project proposal skills learned during the initial MAS provided by ISC earlier this year.

Mobile Advocacy School (MAS)


26-27.09.2011.
Institute for Sustainable Communities (ISC) continues its successful training program after the summer break. Mobile Advocacy School (MAS) training on project proposals writing was organized by ISC on September 26-27. Representatives of 16 Vojvodina- based organizations worked with certified ISC consultants Radmila Miković and Pavle Dimitrijevic who introduced techniques of issue- based analysis and project proposal development.
Participants from Novi Sad, Vrdnik, Kula, Sombor, Zrenjanin, Subotica, Novi Bečej, Backa Palanka and Kikinda actively shared project ideas and experiences from their local communities and took part in group exercises and discussions improving their knowledge and skills relevant to future projects proposals . This event gathered organizations active in the field of human and minority rights, Roma inclusion, environmental protection, youth work and psychosocial support.
ISC MAS for Vojvodina- based CSOs created a room for participants to meet with Harry Lipper, USAID Senior Adviser for Communications & Public Relations, who conducted interactive session with participants sharing advices for widely spread problems and obstacles that CSOs usually create while communicating with the media. This MAS was also attended by Dragana Stevanovic Kolakovic.
Participants were informed about importance of media research during the process of project proposals preparation. Representatives of Media Archive EBART Velimir Kazimir Ćurguz and Goran Ilic demonstrated tools for user- friendly search of media reports and databases collected over the past 20 years.

Mobile Advocacy School (MAS)


26-27.05.2011.
Another event held by CSAI Training Department was Mobile Advocacy School’s (MAS) basic training on project proposal writing tailor-made for civil society organizations from Sumadija Region. This training took place in Kragujevac from May 26-27 and was conducted by prominent members of ISC’s ARP team of consultants Radmila Mikovic and Pavle Dimitrijevic. 18 participants represented different CSOs advocating for environmental protection, vulnerable groups, human rights, youth and elderly, ethnical minorities and children with mental disabilities. ISC expanded former cluster of Sumadija- based organizations that participated in recent MAS cycles, therefore this training included new civic activists from Kruševac, Kraljevo, Kragujevac, Ćuprija, Brus and Gornji Milanovac.

As a part of Mobile Advocacy School (MAS), from May 24-25 in Zlatibor, CSAI’s Training Team organized basic training on project proposal writing. This particular topic is considered by former MAS participants to be the most needed skill set for future development of civil sector in Serbia. The two-day training gathered 15 civil society activists from Western Serbia and Sadzak Region. For most of them this was the first training on project proposal writing. The participants represent CSOs advocating for environmental protection, AIDS prevention, vulnerable groups, human rights, youth, minorities and persons with disabilities that are active in Bajina Bašta, Loznica,Nova Varoš, Božetići, Prijepolje, Šabac, Sjenica, Užice and Valjevo. The MAS training was conducted by Zdenka Kovacevic and Ivan Grujic, members of ISC’s ARP team of consultants.

From April 14-15, in Kladovo, CSAI’s Training Team organized a Mobile Advocacy School (MAS) on Project Proposal Writing. This two-day training gathered 14 civil society activists from Eastern Srbija and Timok Krajina, and this was the first time that members of this organizations received tailored technical assistance in Project Proposal Writing. The participants represent CSOs advocating for environmental and animal protection, youth rights and vulnerable groups, persons with disabilities, etc. The Project Proposal Writing training was conducted by Zdenka Kovacevic and Danko Nikolic, members of ISC’s ARP team of consultants.

This particular topic is considered by MAS participants to be the most highly needed skill set for the future development of the civil sector in Serbia. The two-day training gathered 15 civil society activists from Presevo Valley and the Nis region. This was the first time these participants received tailored technical assistance in project proposal writing. The participants represent CSOs advocating for environmental protection, the decentralization process, youth rights and vulnerable groups, including Roma, persons with disabilities and at-risk youth. This event gathered organizations from Bujanovac, Presevo, Vranje, Nis, Donja Trnava, Krusevac and Pirot.The MAS training was conducted by Mladen Jovanovic and Aleksandar Andjelkovic, members of ISC’s ARP team of consultants who live and work in Nis. This training was initial, basic level, while the group will participate in advanced level project proposal writing orientation in fall.

Training of Trainers (TOT)

 


08-11.03.2011.
On March 8-11, 2011. ISC Serbia organized the fourth Training of Trainers (TOT) for its ARP team of consultants in Kovilovo. This intensive course on networking/ coalition building was conducted by Kay Arnodrfer who has more than 25 years of experience in public policy and non-profit development and management. Working as a consultant for the past six years, she has partnered with a wide variety of progressive organizations in the design and facilitation of leadership, organizational development and capacity building programs. From 1997 – 2004, Kay was a Program Director at the Advocacy Institute where she designed, managed and conducted more than 40 leadership programs for advocates in the U.S. and abroad. Kay also worked for nearly a decade as a Congressional staffer in the U.S. House of Representatives. This TOT gathered sixteen Advocacy Resource Persons and was unique opportunity for formal introduction of newly selected consultants to the rest of the team. ISC Serbia also hosted guests from Kosovo during this TOT.
This TOT provided greater understanding of effective coalitions, set of practical tools for assessing need and defining goals and effective mechanisms for engaging the community and recruiting partners.

Orientation for Environmental Joint Initiative applicants

ISC conducted the second orientation session for Environmental Joint Initiative (JI) applicants at Belgrade Zira Hotel. ISC ARP consultants Snezana Stojanovic, Radmila Mikovic, Mirjana Barbulovic and Pavle Dimitrijevic, together with ISC staff facilitated the process while the applicants presented their findings, compared and reached the final consensus over the specific objectives and started to work on planning of the next steps related to concrete activities. Initial two- day session, conduced a week before, was used for introduction therefore participants presented their concept notes and started to work on the defining the problem and justification of the overall campaign.
