The Green Initiative opened an online multimedia video and photo competition to young people between the ages of 15 to 30 interested in getting involved to help protect the environment in their communities.

The competition was initiated by the European Movement in Serbia, as a part of the Green Initiative campaign on its website www.zelenainicijativa.rs, which represents a network of 22 civil society organisations in Serbia.

In cooperation with the Institute for Sustainable Communities and with financial assistance provided by USAID, the Green Initiative network will carry out joint activities throughout the year aimed at stimulating primary waste selection at the local and national level.

By applying new technologies in the competition, young people will be able to point to issues and problems they notice in their respective local communities in Serbia regarding waste management and recycling; at the same time, they will be creating a network that will enable them to have their say in tackling those issues.

‘Online Recycling Workshop’ competition will also be a place, where authors will be in position to gain on their popularity and present their skills in creating photo and video contents. Photographs and video recordings that competitors will be sending by 31 March 2012 via the website, may be shot either by photo camera or video camera or cell phone camera.

Contents of these recordings should be related to one of many types of waste materials (plastic bottles, bags, cans, household and communal waste, organic waste, industrial waste, electronic and electric waste, used tyres, car batteries, scrap cars…) that pollute environment in their respective local communities.

The most successful competitors will be awarded in two categories (photo shots and video recordings) in the spirit of preservation of environment and promotion of healthy lifestyle.

Results of the competition will be published after the closure of competition on the Green Initiative website, while the closing event and presentation of awards will be organised outdoors after the announcement of winners.
